COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE THE ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE
(Komitet Ochrony Dziedzictwa Architektonicznego)
KODA is an initiative of Polish intelligentsia (mostly university professors and students) to act to prevent the further denegration of historically valuable buildings (and other examples of the built environment such as landscaping and urban planning). Though Poland has in place government offices intended to achieve this goal, the structure of those offices dates from the Communist era and is both undemocratic and opaque. KODA's main mission is to introduce more democracy, more transparency, and more accountability into all matters of historic preservation in Poland.
Because the former 'Neue Synagoge' in Poznań presents so many difficult problems requiring imaginative and resourceful solutions, KODA has chosen to become involved in championing its preservation in innovative ways.
The following document is currently available only in Polish. It is KODA's charter. Translations into English, German, and Hebrew will be available soon.
